Ingram finalises CCD acquisition

Ingram Micro has taken the first step to build an enterprise infrastructure business by completing the acquisition of CCD.

Around 40 staff at Computacenter's former distribution arm along with general manager Jon Bunyard - who now becomes director of enterprise server and storage unit - will transfer with the business to Ingram's Maidenhead office.

The acquisition of CCD was hotly contested by Ingram and arch rival Computer 2000 with both broadliners keen to tap into the SME data centre market and promote the converged infrastructure play being touted by mainline vendors.

Johan Vandenbusche, Ingram vice president of the UK and Benelux, told MicroScope it was good to have a major server back on board, as only this year IBM canned the distributor leaving it without a top three player.

"We have gained a lot of experienced technical knowledge that will help us not only build the right configuration of enterprise computing and storage but also help our main broadline sales floor to become successful in selling enterprise server," he said.

As one of Ingram's priority markets in Europe, the enterprise infrastructure sector remains an area of focus, and it is seeking further acquisition targets, said CEO Greg Spierkel in its recent third quarter results conference with analysts.
