One of Symantec’s distribution partners will have ended its relationship with the vendor before the end of the year as it works through the last fortnight of its notice period.

Although the identity of the partner to be axed will remain under wraps until the contract period ends said Jason Ellis, EMEA channel vice president at Symantec, confirmed it had completed its review and made a decision to axe one partner.

The vendor currently uses DNS Arrow, Bell Microproducts, CMS and SCHd and CodeWork distribute the Symantec enterprise portfolio, while Ingram Micro and Computer 2000 carry volume products including Back-up Exec and N Point

He added that it had been working through its decision to work through reducing its distrtibution partners since MicroScope revealed one would be cut back in June after the appointment of SCHd.

Ellis said that going forward into next year it was encouraging its channel to get skilled up and to focus on parts of its portfolio but 2009 had not been as grim as some had expected.

“The channel  is a lot stronger than a lot of people gave them credit for,” he said referring to the relatively low numbers of casualties caused by the recession.
