The link between bots and spam is growing and increasing thepressure on ISPs to provide a stable infrastructure and to keep their servicessecure.
The threat of ISPs being suspended is not an exaggerated onewith the latest Symantec Q3 2009 MessageLabs Intelligence report indicatingthat the volume of automated spam is reaching record levels.
“Over the past year, we have seen a number of ISPs takenoffline for hosting botnet activity resulting in a case of sink or swim and anensuing shift in botnet power, said Paul Wood, MessageLabs intelligence senioranalyst at Symantec.
Part of the problem has been the changing nature of thetechnology and the security vendor identified emerging botnets that were now responsiblefor 80% plus of spam dissemination.
