Global plans for Dell buy

Dell has paid an undisclosed sum for UK server and storage consultancy The Networked Storage Company (TNWSC) and plans to offer its services globally.

The Surrey-based firm specialises in helping customers in financial services, retail, manufacturing and media switch to more manageable storage systems.

Stephen Murdoch, vice-president of global infrastructure consulting services at Dell, said TNWSC had carved a niche in simplifying and validating IT infrastructures.

"We plan to incorporate its expertise and world-class methodologies as part of our consulting offerings and scale globally," commented Murdoch in a statement sent to MicroScope.

The consultancy developed Point of Proof methodology, offering customers an auditable process to evaluate, select and implement systems that deliver robust and cost-effective IT, said Dell. This service will be extended beyond storage networks to "the entire IT environment, helping to reduce overall costs and complexity of IT infrastructure maintenance".

Simon Pennock, CEO and founder at TNWSC — who ran EMC in the UK and Ireland for a couple of years in the 1990s — was unavailable to comment. But in a statement he said with Dell’s backing it would be able to scale operations and deliver its service to a wider audience.
