Best Buy is just a couple of months away from opening its first stores in the UK with a belief that despite the maturity of the market there is still room for another player to take share.

In a blog post providing an update on its progress opening stores in Thurrock and Southampton the UK CEO of Best Buy Paul Antoniadis said there was room for another electronics retailer.

“I have been very fortunate to have worked at Best Buy for a number of years, in multiple countries, and I feel strongly that there's a real opportunity for us to offer something really fresh, exciting and new to electronics consumers in the UK,” he wrote in a blog post.

The US retailer has been building its stores with the aim of dominating the retail parks it has chosen for launch bringing it into direct competition with PC World and Currys.

“The one aim we all have is to make Best Buy the number one electrical retailer in Thurrock,” wrote Kam Prajapati, general manager of the Kent store on the company website.
