Reflecting the increasing demand for mobile technology one of the major announcements at Lotusphere has been around the development of cloud communities.

The LotusLive.com offering brings together e-mail, collaboration tools and file sharing online and reflects the changing nature of the workforce, according to IBM.

Big Blue has been keen to underline that its focus on Lotus is around increasing collaboration tools that are hosted online.

As well as increasing the cloud options there was also moves by Lotus to widen its strategic relationships with the wraps coming off Alloy the first product developed with SAP that integrates the software from the two vendors.

"In today's economy, more than ever, our customers want to maximize the value derived from their existing investments," said Michael Reh, senior vice president and general manager, SAP in a statement.

"In today's challenging business environment, companies need to identify and respond to operational changes more quickly," said Bob Picciano, general manager, IBM Lotus Software.
