Comtek calls on more industry support for repairs

Repair specialist the Comtek Group has slammed a culture in the networking industry that dissuades users from patching up kit causing them to spend money to buy equipment that need not be purchased.

Speaking to MicroScope Comtek CEO Askar Sheibani expressed his frustration that short warranties and snobbery about repairs combined to push hard pressed customers down the route of making additional purchases.

“We are trying to change the throw-away culture in the industry it is no longer sustainable,” he said.

“The recession has speeded up this customer change and there huge opportunities [for those skilled in repairing IT equipment] and more people are using us now,” he added.

Comtek has issued extended warranties on the networking and comms equipment it repairs.

Keith Humphries, managing consultant at EuroLan, said that promoting the options of repairs would appeal in the recession and to those looking at their corporate social responsibility agendas but warned that there were costs involved with shipping kit around for repair.
