Amazon swiftly kicks shop talk into touch

Microscope contributor

Amazon has moved to quash reports that it is considering opening retail outlets in the UK to back-up a click and collect strategy.

Reports in the Sunday Times yesterday indicated that the online retail giant, which is increasingly selling software, hardware and cloud services, was mulling over setting up a physical presence on the high street.

The idea behind the stores would be to help shift some of the larger electrical items that are more difficult and expensive to deliver via the post, in an order and pick up method that has already been established in the UK by Argos.

But this morning the e-tailer ruled out not just opening shops in the UK but anywhere in the world.
