Canon UK boss Vickers departs

Canon has parted company with UK and Ireland boss Andy Vickers, leaving finance director Ed McNally to hold the fort until permanent replacement Hasse Iwarson starts.

Vickers joined the Japanese copier giant in September 2005 to head up its channel but within months was installed as the big cheese following the exit of Lars-Erik Kennbert.

“We can confirm that Andy Vickers, managing director and country manager of Canon Business Solutions, has decided to leave Canon’s UK and Ireland business. His successor is Hasse Iwarsson,” a spokeswoman told MicroScope.

She refused to provide reasons for Vickers’ departure or confirm a start date for Iwarsson, who has held various positions at Canon including the country boss of Norway and head of distribution for Europe.

Sources believe Vickers had lost control of the UK operation and his involvement in the partnership with HP – a former employer – had not run smoothly.

“HP has been selling Canon’s high-end MFP portfolio and that has created a lot of interest among customers. It would be fair to say that Vickers tried to defend Canon from competing with HP,” said a source.

Prior to joining Canon, Vickers presided over HP’s channel partners following merger with Compaq in 2001.
