Netbook sales grow across Europe

Netbook sales continue to climb across Europefuelled by attractive price points and subsidised offerings from mobileoperators.

 

Figures from Context show a sales increase of 37.7% lastmonth across Europe with the market for the small form factor notebooks nowclose to a quarter of the PC market.

 

"Theynow make up 22% of all PCs being sold by leading European IT distributors, and30% of all notebook PC sales,” said Jeremy Davies, co-founder of Context.

 

In terms ofthe impact on distribution the 58 disties that contribute sales information toContext shifted 420,000 units.

 

Daviesexpects the popularity of the netbook to continue this month because of the popularityof the product in the run up to Christmas.

 

“Netbooksare still in fashion and offer an affordable entry into portable computingespecially for buyers with tight budgets”, said Davies.

 

“Inaddition to this, mobile operators are offering subsidised entry by offeringnetbook deals through relatively small monthly payments,” he added.

 

In terms ofvendors the top netbook players in terms of shares of sales in the UK were Acer followedby Asus and Samsung.
