Bloxx unwraps YouTube appliance for schools

Anti-virus specialist Bloxx has taken the wraps off a security appliance aimed specifically at the education market with plans to encourage its resellers to sell into that vertical market.

The vendor is using the BETT education show which runs later this week as the venue to launch its media filter which allows teachers to use the rich resources on sites like YouTube in a controlled environment.

Eamonn Doyle, CEO of Bloxx, said that those schools that blocked YouTube, which could often be a platform for pupils to visit inappropriate material or see comments that were potentially offensive did miss out on using that content in lessons.

"it is a fantastic educational resource and we can provide an environment where just the clips that have been chosen by the teachers can be viewed without the other links or comments," he said.

He added that based around the curriculum it expected to build up a database of clips that could be accessed throughout schools using the appliance.

Already some of Bloxx's resellers with education expertise had stepped forward to help sell the appliance but Doyle said that it would be looking to support more of its partners make a transition into selling into the schools market.
