Worms remain a serious problem for users along with roguesecurity software as users try to battle it out against the threats that litterthe web.
According to the latest Microsoft Security IntelligenceReport there has been an explosion in the number of enterprise worm infections,up 100% in the first half of 2009 compared to the last six months of 2008.
The Conficker worm was the top detected in the enterprisespace along with Taterf, which targets users in multiplayer online games.
That has been coupled with problems with rogue securitysoftware, which although dipping by 20% as a problem compared to the previousyear still remains a major headache for users.
The persistenceof ‘scareware’ targets those users that are worried they might be at risk so inadvertentlyjump into the frying pan by downloading a false programme.
VinnyGullotto, general manager of the Microsoft malware protection centre, said that“knowledge was power when it comes to security intelligence” and urged greaterawareness of the current threats.
