The message about the benefits of using Software AssetManagement (SAM) appears to be getting through to users with a strong attendanceat the first industry event to promote the technology.
The event organised by the Software Industry Research Board(SIRB) had representatives from Oracle, Microsoft, Computacenter, FrontRangeand the Federation Against Software Theft, Investors in Software.
Matt Fisher, director at FrontRange Solutions, said that onthe day that IDC revealed that the costs of piracy had gone up in the UK it wasimportant for users to hear about the benefits of using SAM to help controlsoftware costs.
“The message is getting out there and everyone hascompliance at the back of their minds but they are also being asked [byemployers] to reduce software spend,” he said.
He added that the conference had been designed specificallyto provide education as well as practical advice about how to implement SAM.
“Organisations have got limited budget and are watchingevery penny they spend so they want to know they are not over spending onlicences,” he added.
