Cloud specialist ThinkGrid has taken the wraps off a hostedstorage service that provides a range of data tools that are designed to helpthose struggling to keep on top of their data.
As well as providing the option to simply host data theservice offers the option for remote back-up and disaster recovery.
David Pratt, COO at ThinkGrid, said that as well asappealing to the current customer demand of shifting purchases from cap-ex toop-ex there were other benefits to flexibility for those companies that onlywanted to pay for the storage they used.
“Cloud storage is going to be one of these very goodservices for the channel because they have all sold storage and it is a greatway of getting in front of the customer,” he said.
He added that is was basing the service on the MezeoCloudStorage Platform which had SSL encryption and user concerns about security wereunderstandable but could be tackled with the technology.
Research from Symantec last week revealed that many companies are failing to keep on top of disaster recovery plans leaving themselves exposed to risks.
One source operating in the business intelligence marketsaid it was a “natural development” to start to combine storage as a servicewith BI tools that could provide data warehousing features.
“If I could get my hands on a couple of data centres then itwould be tempting to start it myself,” he added.
