Research conducted by ITservice management (ITSM) company Axios has revealed that two thirds of ITprofessionals now believe ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) best practicestandards are the most suitable tool to manage corporate governance requirements.
The survey showed that whileITIL has long been accepted within internal IT departments, enterprises arebeginning to see the benefits of the standards in a wider context.
Axios CEO Tasos Symeonideswas encouraged to see customers using ITIL outside a service desk context inareas such as finance and HR, but warned companies not to jump the gun.
“Companies need to also lookat how they can better support their IT practitioners before they look to rollout new technologies and ways of working if they want to get the most out oftheir service delivery programme,” he said.
Earlier in the year MicroScopereported that take-up of the latest version of the ITIL standards had been lacklustre, with SMEs the least enthusiastic backers of the scheme. With the emphasis on strictstandards for businesses focusing on verticals such as local government and education,IT resellers may be able to step in to provide guidance on how to implementITIL.
