Dell keeps shtum on CMS Peripherals appointment

Dell is keeping mum on the appointment of CMS Peripherals except to brand talk of the partnership as "rumour and speculation".

The London-based distributor must therefore be carrying a different Dell EqualLogic on its web pages nestled amongst the full list of vendor partners.

In an unusual turn of events, MicroScope contacted Dell to discuss the addition of CMS as a second EqualLogic distributor to work alongside Hammer but the firm was unwilling to open up.

"I can't comment on rumour and speculation on any distribution deal," said one of Dell's PR gurus.

The evidence is mounting though; as well as counting Dell among its partners on the portal, CMS invited resellers to attend its webinar on 14 January which provided an overview of EqualLogic's storage solutions architecture.

According to sources close to the vendor, its reticence to discuss the appointment of CMS indicates that it has yet to settle on a distribution strategy.

"Dell does not have an official line on distribution in Europe so it is making arrangements with nationals," said a channel insider.

Last year Dell appointed Ingram Micro and Tech Data to distribute PCs and severs in North America. It had planned to extend the contract to EMEA but rolling out the model across a more fragmented market proved complex.
