Hewlett-Packard's former head of EMEA channels Jos Brenkel is set to make a dramatic entrance to the UK as interim head of the personal systems group (PSG) following yesterday's resignation of David Wright.

Talking to Microscope, Wright said he had decided to leave the company after almost two decades, most recently as vice president of PSG and plans to enjoy the summer.

"I decided to take a break from the business, I have been at HP for 20 years and ran PSG for the last five, I will work up to the end of the month," he said.

The PC market has suffered in the recession this year, unit shipments in the first quatrer declined 8.3% but HP fared a little better with sales dropping 7.9%. The only vendors to post growth included Acer, Toshiba and Samsung.

Brenkel, who continues to run HP's PSG business in the Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa will, according to sources oversee the division in the UK until a replacement in found.

He is very familiar with the distributors and large resellers across Europe and will be able to advise incoming UK boss Nick Wilson of the movers and shakers in the channel and the shape of the business.

Brenkel was unavailable to comment at the time of going to press and HP refused to comment.
