The initial release date scheduled for this month has been pushed back with a phased roll out in China and other emerging markets expected first and in Europe during the early summer.
A spokesman at Lenovo insisted there were no specific technical or production issues pertaining to the device that had been discovered."Skylight is based on a Linux platform so we want to ensure it works properly and there are no bugs. We are spending a few extra months to make sure it's right...and do not ship prematurely," he said.
Although based on the same principle as the iPad - application content delivered directly from the Internet - Skylight is more similar to a notebook in style than the Apple device.
The early signs indicated that Lenovo had under-estimated demand said the spokesman and it was increasing forecasts in certain parts of the world, particularly developing economies, but had capacity to raise production.
