Industry veteran David Smith has joined Hewlett-Packard Gold partner Landscape Group as chief executive and plans to use the growing interest in managed print services to underpin the business.
The printer hardware market has been hit hard by the recession but according to analyst Gartner selling print as a service appears to be enticing businesses that want to reduce cap-ex and op-ex.
Smith said "With organisations wanting to right size print output devices, reduce operating expenditure, consolidate assets and get better control of future costs, there has never been a better time to look at rationalising the printer/copier fleet."
Formed in 1994, Landscape has carved a niche in the imaging and printing market and is one of a limited band of IT resellers to hold HP's Smart Printing Services accreditation.
The trading arm Landscape Printing Systems filed accounts for the year to 30 September 2008 that showed a 10.3% rise in revenues to £3.2m and profit after tax of £43k (excluding a dividend of £100k).
Over the last ten years Smith has worked in various channel facing roles at HP including head of SME, was marketing director at Canon UK and more recently moved to Samsung to head up the IT division.
