UK channel outshines European rivals

The UK channel outshone many of its European counterparts in April in spite of the disruptive volcanic ash cloud and the looming prospect of the General Election.

Figures from the bean counters at Context showed that UK revenues derived from PCs, Workstations and x86 servers grew nearly 25% to £117m, while unit shipments rose by 30% year-on-year.

"This is one of the highest growth rates achieved amongst the European countries we cover," said Marie-Christine Pygott, senior research analyst at Context.

Businesses responded to product releases from some of the major x86 players she added with shipments up 37% on year ago figures, but the growth in notebooks and desktop segments was again driven by consumers.

The mix of netbook sales fell from 33% in March to 27% in April as the growth rates become more normalised after meteoric rates.
