Sun Microsystems' gave shareholders and partners little reason to cheer as it filed what could be the last set of results before it is swalled by Oracle, with completion slated for later this week.

Sales for the three months ended 30 June dived 30.7% to $2.6bn and dropped 17.4% for the year as a whole to $11.4bn.

The bottom line fared little better with Sun notching up whopping losses for the 12 months of $2.2bn and $147m for the final three months of the year.

It has become customary for Sun to quietly release financials in tabular form with no accompanying blurb or teleconference since Oracle bid for the company and true to form it again issued just the stats.

Product revenues fell 35.7% in Q4 to $1.48bn and 22.1% for the year to $6.7bn and services turnover went down 15.4% in the quarter to $1.14bn and 9.6% for the year to $4.75bn.

The EU is expected to give deal with Oracle the thumbs up or down on 3 September.
