Oracle distributors still blind to vendor's intentions

Prospective and existing Oracle distributors across the world are still waiting anxiously to hear the results of a tender process that were due at the end of last week.

With no warning, the US giant asked distributors on 5 July to complete a Request For Information document by the middle of the month and promised to inform partners whether they featured in its plans or not by 30 July.

However, true to form Oracle has maintained radio silence with no firm date set for letting partners know, a number of sources have told MicroScope.

"I suspect like the rest of the world we are trying to understand the timescale and the strategy, Oracle has missed the deadline so what is the new time line?" asked one source close to the vendor.

Computer 2000, Avnet Technology Solutions, Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions and French distributor Altimate have applied for the UK contract covering Oracle software and Sun Microsystems hardware.

Others said Oracle was not flexible in the RFU process as it wanted a "quick execution and resolution", which makes the delay all the more ironic.

The appointments are also a big deal for resellers as the chosen distributors will be handling all channel programmes including the provision MDF and rebates.

MicroScope contacted Oracle last week to comment on the distributor selection process, but like the partners, is still waiting for a response.
