Former Basilica and BT Engage IT boss Nick Gorringe is returning to the industry as non-executive director at south coast-based reseller Vohkus.

The 16-year channel veteran sold Basilica to BT in the summer of 2007 and managed the business until last September when he stepped down with a six month non-compete clause built into his leaving package.

Gorringe told MicroScope: "I've been here a day and already it feels like home...the remit is to help the guys build and deliver a strategy to realise their ambitions to become a serious mid-market player."

"The culture is very similar to Basilica, I see a very enthused bunch of people that are pulling in the same direction," he added.

He joined Basilica in 1993 as a pre-sales consultant and led an MBO eight years later along with directors Chris Leigh, Allan Mulliner, Nick Wiltshire and Julian Kenny. Turnover grew close to £90m before it was sold to the telco giant.

Gorringe plans to work at Vohkus on a weekly basis.

Ritchie Sharma, managing director at Vohkus, said Gorringe had the "expertise and track record to help move us forward to address our corporate goals."

In the year to 31 May 2010, Vohkus posted a profit of £414,000 compared to a loss of £150,000 it made in the midst of the recession, as sales rebounded 22.4% to £26.7m.
