RM Academy deal a sign of the times

It is a sign of leaner times in the public sector that education IT supplier RM this morning issued a statement to detail its win of a (2.5m British pounds) project at Landau Forte Academy in Staffordshire.

The Academy system will become vital to some in the UK channel with the Building Schools for the Future project under review and unlikely to resume normal play.

"It is very clear that Academies are going to be an increasingly important part of the wider community of schools and RM is well positioned as a significant supplier to them," said RM chief executive Terry Sweeney.

According to research by analysts at TechMarketView, RM will be hit hardest by the collapse of BSF as it was by far the largest supplier to the scheme, losing an estimated £306m worth of business.

In response, the supplier has acted swiftly to cut costs by reducing BSF contractors and overhauling the bidding team to re-focus them on other projects.

The Landau Forte Academy is a drop in the ocean compared to other much larger deals won by RM in recent times, with two sites housing 900 students each.

The IT element of the project will include the provision of network connectivity, PCs and a cashless catering system.
