DSGi Business splits with sales and marketing director

DSGi Business has parted company with sales and marketing director John Stevens, the last of the old guard that had worked on a blueprint to create a £1bn reselling powerhouse.  

According to sources, Stevens understood the commercial landscape and his departure has caused concern among some colleagues who are already fearful that the business is being steered by management with a background in retail.

A spokesman confirmed that Stevens had left the company to "pursue other interests" and said the business was continuing to develop its turnaround plans.

"DSGi Business is making good progress with its transformation programme to deliver an efficient, customer-focused organisation which will be even more competitive going forward. Customers are already benefiting from a more specialist solution."

In the last 18 months, DSGi Retail has reformatted stores while the Business arm has consolidated the brands to PC World Business and Equanet, losing or making large swathes of the senior management team redundant.

This includes directors David Gould, Richard Harrsion, Jerry Roest and other senior figures including Mark Chatterton, Neil Sutton, Andy Walsh.

Six years ago, MicroScope revealed that Derek Lloyd, then managing director at PC World Business, had planned a buy and build strategy to create a £1bn reseller operation within a decade but this hit the buffers at the £450m milestone.

 Rivals claim they do not face PCWB in the same number of tenders, and it has clearly been a tough start to fiscal 2010 for DSGi's retail and business divisions.

DSGi Business did not respond to calls from the magazine for an interview with boss Martin Dorchester.
