Summer sales progressed as expected according to education specialist RM despite the government's austerity measures that are wreaking havoc in parts of the sector.

As the largest supplier of products and services to the Building Schools for the Future scheme, RM has been dealing with the coalition decision to freeze spending on the programme ahead of a likely overhaul next month.

In a trading update to the City this morning, RM said it was anticipating sales growth across all areas of the business.

"During summer 2010, we will have commissioned more new schools, processed more examination scripts, and shipped more classroom resources than ever before," said RM CEO Terry Sweeney in a statement.

He added that it had continued to experience momentum "with both new contracts and extensions to existing arrangements."

RM cut its cloth accordingly in the month after the collapse of BSF and recognises that it will need to find another revenue stream once the scheme is finally chopped or dramatically cut and restructured.
