Ingram Micro veteran of 24 years Bhavesh Patel has resigned as commercial director for volume products and plans to take a break from the industry.

During his tenure, Patel worked with the distributor in the Asia Pacific region and joined the UK operation from its inception in April 1991 as general manager for mass storage.

He will leave the firm at the end of January and insisted it was his decision to leave the firm, "I am leaving the business on good terms," he told Microscope.

"I'll take a little break and then figure out what to do next, but I know the businesses in our industry are challenged [in the current climate] and hopefully challenged businesses will require good experience."

Julian Klein, UK managing director at Ingram Micro said Patel had a number of personal and professional challenges that he wanted to pursue outside of the company and said he will be missed.

In the interim, Mike Farrah, head of category for PCs and peripherals will assume responsibility for Patel's role. "We will take our time to figure out the best way to replace Bhavesh, they are big shoes to fill," added Klein.
