Mobile phone distributor 20:20 has named Bhavesh Patel as its group commercial director, less than a month after he left IT broadliner Ingram Micro.

Patel will join forces will Meine Oldersma, his former UK boss at Ingram Micro who joined 20:20 as chief executive in December 2007, having returned after a stint with the IT wholesaler in China.

In a statement sent to Microscope, Oldersma said "We are delighted to welcome Bhavesh to the group. He brings a wealth of commercial experience from the IT sector and a fantastic range of expertise gained as a senior executive".

George Steur, previous group commercial director has moved to become managing director for the international operation last Autumn.

The convergence between IT and the comms products and channels has been palpable in recent times, as telcos move into notebook sales with broadband connectivity and IT wholesalers including C2000 get involved in mobile phones.

Patel will no doubt be able to assist 20:20 as the distributor looks to get involved with IT sales.

"Following my time with Ingram Micro I was looking for a new challenge in an adjacent industry and this position is a perfect complement to my previous experience," he said in a statement.
