Connect has launched a UK channel programme for resellers to sell a range of cloud-based business continuity services to the SME market.
Describing the business benefits of email continuity and data backup in the cloud as "compelling", the company claims the scheme will help resellers move "quickly and easily" into selling cloud-based services without the need for "a large, upfront infrastructure investment".
Chief executive Mark MacGregor argued that "old fashioned methods of backing up to physical media, such as tape, are simply no longer appropriate in today's fast-paced business environment. Moving to the cloud for business continuity is far more effective from both a cost and performance point of view".
Steve Hill, sales manager at reseller HardSoft Computers, claimed Connect's reseller package "sets it apart from other backup service providers". He added that online backup was "a good opportunity for us to add value to network deals" because more and more customers no longer trusted tape and looked favourably on online backup because it "removes human error".
The Connect scheme follows Acronis' launch at the beginning of October of its Acronis Backup & Recovery Online 10 online solution, designed for SMBs which is also sold through resellers.
At the time, Carla Arend, programme manager for IDC's European Information management and storage software research, described it as "an important initiative for the SMB market because Acronis is now providing enterprise-class cloud based backup and recovery at an affordable price point for small to medium sized businesses".
