Dell to inject new top tier in partner programme

Dell is mulling over the introduction of a top tier reseller accreditation which pays out more to partners that invest in multiple or deeper certifications.

The blueprint is under design with no details or potential launch dates yet confirmed but the plan reflects the PC maker's continued enterprise transformation strategy; only last week Dell acquired US cloud computing services firm Boomi.

Kathy Schneider, Dell EMEA marketing and programmes director for the channel, said in Q3 Certified partners - the upper echelon of the Direct2Dell channel scheme - grew seven times faster than Registered dealers.

"As we acquire more companies as part of our enterprise transformation strategy, we will add and invest in more certification tracks," she said, "I'd encourage partners to take advantage of those in more than one area."

As revealed by MicroScope in the summer, Dell introduced two new certification paths; one for networking based on its OEM relationship with Juniper and one related to systems management software following its acquisition of KACE.

To distinguish between the investment in specialisations, Schneider suggested it might introduce an "additional level of Certified partner to recognise those that are investing even more whether it's across [more product sets] or perhaps deeper."

A launch date or programme details have not been defined but a new top tier would clearly have to offer financial rewards that are higher than current levels.

"We see the programme evolving as the channel matures...we want to make sure the benefits continue to reward those who are investing the most with Dell," said Schneider.

There are 393 Dell Certified partners across EMEA with 221 in the process of applying for the accreditation, while 85% of them have enterprise certifications with many opting for individual badges around servers and storage, Dell revealed.
