Services-based storage reseller B2net has acquired small London-based Cisco Gold partner Essant for an undisclosed sum.

The firms are forecasting a combined turnover in the region of £50m in the current financial year, creating an enlarged mid-market and managed services reselling operation with vendor partners including IBM, HP, NetApp and EMC.

The methodologies that both firms employ are "very similar" said Jason Clark, managing director at Chesterfield-based B2net, which employs 120 staff and also has regional offices in the capital, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham.

"We both use a consultative approach to give our clients an impartial answer based on their business requirements rather than a purely vendor-led solution," he said.

The Essant operation designs, installs and manages LAN, WAN, wireless and mobility and UC systems, offering professional, managed and support services as well as SaaS, while B2net sells data storage, virtualisation and infrastructure.

The acquisition represented an opportunity to "leverage the combined advanced skill sets across both companies, enabling us to deliver a coherent vision across network and data centre environment," said Essant director Richard Dickinson in a statement.

In abbreviated accounts for the year to 31 December 2009 - the last filed numbers - Essant had total current assets of £403,001. In the year to 30 April 2009, B2net sales grew nearly 29% to £39m but profits for the year nearly halved to £102,031.
