Ingram Micro has poached storage industry veteran John Winney from Arrow ECS to beef up its HP enterprise unit with sales manager Andy Rousell set to join rival distributor Azlan.

Winney, who until last month was HP XP business manager at Arrow ECS, stated his career in IT as a computer operator at Oxford University Computing Services and later moved to RM, Dell and HDS.

As business development manager he will be charged with helping to drive the HP storage franchise that Ingram inherited through last year's acquisition of CCD, which formed part of its strategy to build a mid-market infrastructure unit.

Jon Bunyard, director of HP server, storage and networking for Ingram Micro, described the appointment as key to its strategy of further developing an enterprise business.

The recruitment plans at Ingram are less aggressive than Azlan, which narrowly missed out on the acquisition of CCD, and instead chosen to heavily recruit heads from the enterprise channel including Mark Walker, Ian French and Simon Welch.
