C2000 to name ASUS sales director Brown as PC GM

Computer 2000 is understood to have poached ASUS UK sales director Phil Brown to run its PC systems division from February, ending his short spell at the netbook pioneer.

Brown joined ASUS in May from Samsung, where he was general manager of the notebook division and helped build greater market share.

John Swatton, ASUS marketing manager confirmed that Brown will continue to oversee the sales and marketing function until the end of January after which time Benjamin Yeh, regional director for the UK and Nordics will caretake the role.

ASUS set Brown the target of growing the UK operation into a top three player by the end of 2011, building on its success in the netbook market by driving adoption of the wider PC portfolio but during his very short time in charge he did not manage this.

Channel sources reckon Brown is heading to C2000, which promoted Mark Glasspool, the former GM for the PC unit, to a European position in September and then handed the reins to marketing director Andy Dow on an interim basis.

Lee Perkins, UK country manager at Basingstoke-based C2000, refused to confirm Brown's appointment but said: "We are looking to bring somebody into the business to run PC systems and will look to find the best possible candidate."

Brown was unavailable to comment and ASUS refused to comment further.
