Dixons-owned reseller Equanet has ushered in former Dataplex technical director Jamie Marshall as head of IT solutions.

Marshall came on the job market late last year when Dataplex was placed in administration, leaving a trail of supplier debts estimated to be £1.5m to £2m in its wake, before being sold this year to Intrinsic Technology.

Marshall will be tasked with "widening the technical capabilities [Equanet] offers businesses nationwide", running a team of 30 with access to The Tech Guys, the parent company's two hundred-strong network of engineers based across the UK.

He will develop new "sector specific services" for the reseller in the education and public sector, the firm said.

In addition, he will work to raise brand awareness of Equanet - once a reputed and respected business in the UK channel - which lost its way under the leadership of Dixons Retail, haemorrhaging senior sales staff and closing the Surbiton HQ.

"I look forward to the opportunity to increase and advance the services that we offer. It's a great challenge, and I've been very impressed with the set up, the staff and support provided by Equanet," said Marshall in a statement.

Marshall's previous employer Dataplex was on the watch list for a number of distributors last year and upset many when managing director Richard Sparrow put the business in the hands of an administrator on 23 December.
