Steljes fires and hires to reflect shifting market dynamics

Steljes has put 19 staff at risk of redundancy from its education division to reflect sweeping changes in the market being forced through by the government.

But at the same time, the Bagshot-based specialist AV distributor is creating 16 roles in the commercial team as it tries to build out its presence in the corporate space.

The review, which kicked off this month, was provoked by the government's decision to devolve IT purchasing power from local education authorities to the 30,000 schools, presenting challenges to incumbent suppliers.

The distributor confirmed today that it has "undergone considerable changes in its structure" and plans to "capitalise on the opportunities presented in the corporate market".

"As a result, 19 roles were put at risk of redundancy with 16 new roles created as part of the new structure," said Steljes in a statement.

It added that nearly half of the employees put at risk were "successful" in their application for the new roles but the rest were made redundant.
