EMC UK boss Adrian McDonald has moved into a new role overseeing the northern territory of EMEA while Christian Hiller, head of EMC France has taken responsibility for the south.

As part of the strategic shake-up, both individuals will report to EMC executive VP for EMEA and the Americas Bill Scannell, with former EMEA lead Rainer Eriat heading upstairs to become Chairman of EMC International.

Scannell said: "We expect much of our future growth to come from international markets and the EMEA region will play a significant role in this expansion".

Sales in the US represented 53% of EMC's worldwide revenues of $4.9bn in the fourth quarter with the remainder made up by international operations.

The UK, Ireland, northern and eastern Europe will fall under the guidance of McDonald while Hiller will look after Germany, France, Italy, Iberia, the Med, Middle East and Africa.

The storage market is being driven by 'Big Data' - the volumes of corporate and external data generated daily - and the gradual shift to the cloud.

The management structure will allow EMC to capture IT opportunities "whilst staying close to customers across the diverse markets in the region."

EMC told MicroScope it was "still finalising" McDonald's replacement in the UK but had a candidate lined up.
