VMware has hired the government's G Cloud Deputy Director Andy Tait as head of UK public services strategy.
At the Cabinet Office, Tait worked under former Government CIO John Suffolk developing the Apps Store, G Cloud programme and driving data centre consolidation.
"IT should be at the forefront of delivering the efficiencies and savings required by government," said Tait in a prepared statement.
According to a recent VMware public sector survey in the UK, local councils revealed they are expected to cut on average 6% off their IT budgets but more than half had yet to take any action.
Tait said he believed virtualisation and cloud technologies could help public sector IT leaders make cost savings "without impacting front-line services".
