VMware appoints cloud technology chief

Virtualisation giant VMware has appointed a chief cloud technologist based in the UK offering guidance to resellers across Europe, writes Linda Endersby.

The newly created role will see former Quest Software CTO Joe Baguley develop and communicate the vendor's strategy with customers and channel partners, reporting to the CTO's office in Palo Alto.

Paul Strong, CTO global field and customer initiatives at VMware, said that the time was right to make the appointment as many resellers and customers were making the transition to the cloud.


Baguley has strong cloud credentials with a decade at Quest Software as well as playing a key role in Cloud Camp and other events, plus sitting on the Industry Expert Group at SIENA and is a founding committee member of the Data Centre Specialist Group at the British Computer Society.

Baguley said he was excited by the role at VMware to communicate with customers and partners as to how cloud technology fits into the broader IT landscape. 

"We are at an important juncture in the world of IT as organisations map and plan their journey to the cloud and I believe that VMware is best placed to help them," he said.
