HP executives move to calm channel and customer fears

With the decision to exit PCs and tablets still reverberating HP has taken steps to reassure customers over concerns they may have over the company direction.

In a major shake-up, HP announced plans last week to ditch its Touchpad tablet range, seek a buyer for its PC division and acquire UK software company Autonomy for £7.1bn.

In response, analysts warned customers could think twice about HP contracts because of uncertainty surrounding its PC business. But the vendor has taken steps to tell users and channel partners that all will be well.

On the channel front an letter sent to partners by executive vice president of PSG at HP Todd Bradley, stated that "HP remains committed  -- now more than ever -- to the health and growth of its PC business".

In a Q&A for customers, Mark Budgell, HP's PR manager, said the firm would continue to provide products, services and support for existing customers: "Whether the company is spun off, sold or kept in the HP portfolio, the team here remains committed to creating and supporting great products and services for customers like you all over the world."

Budgell confirmed HP would honour warranties and provide support for HP PCs bought recently and in the future. He also said HP will support WebOS operating system (OS) users, via its free set-up support service, Butler.

"We expect that HP Touchpad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalogue," Budgell added.

He added: "Regardless of what happens in the coming days and weeks, we are committed to maintaining our status as the number one PC business in the industry."
