Trend Micro moves SME security into cloud to boost margins

Trend Micro is emphasising the cheaper installation and services costs as it launches a hosted version of its Worry Free SME targeted security product.

Resellers will be able to reduce the cost of sale and run multiple accounts from one interface which should cut down management costs and improve services revenues.

The security world is moving wholesale towards hosted software because of the ability to deliver quicker patches against threats as well as chiming in with the growing demand for pay-as-you-go services.

Carol Carpenter, general manager of the consumer and small business units at Trend Micro, said resellers were attracted by better margins and the customers got better protection against threats.

Research last week from Microsoft revealed that more SMEs were planning to make investments in the cloud this year in a move to gain more predictability of cost and gain access to enterprise class applications.
