In a move designed to bolster its ability to offer system management to those users looking for help meeting compliance and security demands Dell has moved to acquire KACE.

Dell will get access to the KBOX appliance range which helps patch, track assets and migrate desktops from one application to another and will sell via its own partner base and KACE resellers.

The terms of the deal were undisclosed but already Dell is talking up the impact of the purchase on its SME and mid-market strategy.

"We talk directly to thousands of these customers and they tell us they need systems management tools geared for their environment," said Steve Felice, president of Dell's consumer and SMB division.

The growth in systems management has been fueled by the recession with IT managers under pressure to do more with less but at the same time keep desktops across their organisations up to date with the latest security policies and applications.
