Brocade and McAfee have formed a strategic partnership to deliver network security protection which should extend the products their respective channels can bring to the market.

The agreement involves the vendors designing, developing and delivering product sets that are interoperable with the networking kit from Brocade with the protection that can be offered by McAfee.

Selected resellers will have access to the fruits of the combined technology from a partnership that the vendors expect to span several years.

The McAfee Firewall and intrusion prevention technologies will operate with Brocade's NetIron MLX series of routers and the security vendor's Network Access Control will be primed to secure the FastIron CX and WS switches.

Unveiling the relationship the vendor's pointed to the prominent position on the list of user concerns that network security holds.

"Keeping data secure is a battle that must be waged on multiple fronts, especially at the network level," said Dan Ryan, executive vice president and general manager of the Network Security business unit at McAfee.

"Working with Brocade to bring a comprehensive set of network security solutions to market makes perfect sense," he added.

Marc Randall, senior vice president of products and offerings at Brocade, said it was being proactive over the "eventual integration and overlap of security within the network environment".
