Cloud popularity underpins Salesforce.com revenue growth

The expansion of interest in cloud computing has been the main factor in bouying salesforce.com's full year results.

Seen by many as the most established hosted player with its CRM products the vendor reported revenue of $1.3bn, up 21% from the year before, for the fiscal 12 months ended 31 January.

Subscription and support revenues were $1.2bn, an increase of 23% year-on-year with professional services and other revenues at $96.1 million, an increase of 4% on a year-over-year basis.

The company said that 17,100 customers were now running its software service, bringing the total to 72,500 users globally.

Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO at salesforce.com, said that the movement to the cloud from customers was underpinning its growth.

"Our Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Custom Cloud businesses all delivered outstanding results,"he said.

The vendor continues to look for ways to meet more user demands for functionality and last week launched its Chatter service providing its customers with a Twitter type social networking option via the cloud.
