Hosted clouds Rise for FastHosts
Web-hosting specialist FastHosts has branched out into the cloud with the launch of a wholly-owned cloud infrastructure-as-a-service venture called Rise, pitched at SMBs through both IT and comms resellers
Speaking to MicroScope, Fasthosts and Rise CEO Andy Burton said that many smaller firms had caught the gist of the cloud, but were not clear on how to adapt it, which was where channel players came in.
"The vast majority of our customers are SMBs and in the current economic climate their ability to invest is contained," he said. "We feel the best way to help SMBs adopt cloud technology is to go through the partner network that they rely on for on-premise IT."
Rise is currently targeting approximately five LARs, 10 systems integrators and 30 VARs by the end of 2010. Partners will be able to sell Rise's Microsoft Dynamic Data Centre-based cloud infrastructure offering as part of their portfolio, or as a managed service backed off to the firm's two datacentres.
According to Burton, pumping cloud services through traditional IT partners with long-standing local relationships would break down some of the trust barriers surrounding the cloud proposition.
