Comtek gets Labour MP backing for scrapping VAT on IT repair

Simon Quicke

IT repair specialist Comtek is leading the campaign to get the government to scrap VAT on fixing technology products and has unveiled backing from a Labour MP for its efforts.

The company clearly has an interest in seeing VAT suspended on technology repairs but it is also pushing a green agenda which is why Mark Tami, Labour MP for Alyn and Deeside has got behind the firm's petition.

Tami has written to the Chancellor Alistair Darling to call for backing from him for the campaign and the petition for the abolition of VAT on ICT repair has gone live.

"There are huge environmental arguments in favour of tax incentives for individuals and businesses that want to maintain their existing ICT products, yet until now the government has ignored our advice," said Askar Sheibani, CEO of Comtek.

"We're delighted to have Mark's support and we hope that his endorsement will cause the Treasury to sit up and take notice," he added.
