Microsoft highlights channel opportunity to sell to future offices

The office of the future is going to require technology to make it operate with much greater flexibility as the lines between home and work blur further.

According to the report in to The Hybrid Organisation carried out on behalf of Microsoft the demand for flexibility is going to give rise to offices that are set up to work with remote staff working different shifts.

The hybrid organisation was defined in the report as a company where the two elements of people and working styles were mixed together to produce positive results for both employer and employee.

"The successful mixture of sets of people with different working styles, needs and attitudes to work will be an important factor in determining the success, or otherwise, of organisations in the future," states the report.

For a reseller the implications of the report are clear with the customer demand for technology enabling mobility going to grow and some of the trends for flexibility in working and application use expanding across the user base.

Scott Dodds, general manager of small, medium enterprises & partners group at Microsoft,said that the recession had changed the way companies operated but it was not expecting things to return to a post downturn situation.

He said that a lot of the current technology resellers were offering would help customers and there was a big opportunity not just around kit sales but in terms of system management.

Dodds added that the report was describing a situation that was emerging now but things were in a "transition period" and it would take time for all companies to become hybrid organisations.
