Cisco has added some more muscle to its consumer technology arm after picking up 35-strong California-based product and strategy development consultancy MOTO for an undisclosed sum.

MOTO has a lengthy track record in developing and marketing consumer technology, and had previously worked with Pure Digital, maker of the Flip camera, before its acquisition by Cisco last year.

Cisco said the acquisition was a step towards "embedding consumer design and ease of use into Cisco products for the consumer market".

Senior vice president of Cisco Consumer Products, Jonathan Kaplan, added: "MOTO's design and engineering team have deep consumer expertise that will accelerate our ability to continue to ... expand Cisco's consumer business."

The acquisition is set to close during Cisco's fiscal Q4.
