Bell readies HP Networking portfolio

Alex Scroxton
Bell Microproducts is creating a new virtual team to represent the new HP ESSN unit and will be training up its servers and storage teams to sell the combined ProCurve and 3Com lines after being handed a contract to distribute the HP Networking portfolio alongside its existing HP business.

"Alongside that the networking team will handle overspill in terms of more complex, larger networking products," said Ed Callacher, Bell divisional leader of networking and security.

Callacher told MicroScope that Bell's prior dealings with ESS and its former contract with HP ProCurve, as well as its existing 3Com relationship, meant the distie was now in a good position to "be at the forefront of HP's converged infrastructure strategy."

He was, however, unable to comment on how, or if, the relationship would be affected by the imminent acquisition of Bell by Avnet.

Bell said it would be working closely with HP ESS partners to introduce networking opportunities in an "advisory" role, while ensuring safe delivery of the networking kit to 3Com and ProCurve partners during the transition to HP Networking.

Noting that the 3Com had made some "silly" choices in the past, Callacher said its business had been ramping up over the past three years.

"[3Com] has worked hard to rebuild the relationship they had with the enterprise networking space and I think they've now achieved that to some extent," he said.

"You're starting to see some really good H3C enterprise class products coming into the market and the 3Com channel has really lapped it up. HP brings them even more breadth."
