The telco market has been one of the most active on the acquisition front during the recession with the likes of Daisy and GCI expanding their operations by opening their wallets.
The result of the activity has been to create a few large entities that are aiming to provide a complete infrastructure and telco package to small and medium firms.
Speaking to MicroScope, GCI Telecom CEO Don McQueen, said that it had not finished with its acquisition strategy with talks in discussion to add to the seven purchases in the last four years.
"Two years prior to the recession we were struggling to find anything of value but then the financial crash came and credit was squeezed and prices became more reasonable again," he said.
He added that as a result it had been able to make three acquisitions in the last nine months and "we are looking at acquisitions right now looking to close in the next six months or so".
GCI picked up IPI, Invomo and NetServices recently as part of its strategy to provide a wider portfolio including in-bound telephony.
McQueen said that the expansion of the business had been part of its plans to evolve from a position of being a straightforward voice reseller into a player that was an IP network operator that could offer services as a result of local loop unbundling after taking over BT local exchanges.
Daisy has also been actively buying with its most recent acquisition just a few days old a £3.6m purchase of Northumberland-based mobility distributor Fone Logistics.
