Simon Quicke

Dell has been busy on the acquisition front again moving into pick up data centre software player Scalent for an undisclosed amount.

The deal was announced last night and should bolster the enterprise server business for the PC Goliath as it will integrate the Scalent software into its Advanced Infrastructure Manager.

Only last week Dell said it wanted to double the growth in its enterprise solutions business and privately owned Scalent, based in the US has had an OEM relationship with its new owner.

"This acquisition will solidify an important component of our enterprise solution portfolio. We know that Scalent software, in combination with Dell servers, storage and network platforms, provide increased efficiency and value," said Brad Anderson, Dell senior vice president, Enterprise Product Group.

in response Benjamin Linder, CEO of Scalent said that it looked forward to the investment from Dell in "accelerating our innovation curve".

Dell has already been acquisitive this year wrapping up the purchase of systems management specialist KACE back in February.
